'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teenagers Desperately Seek News After Ski Resort Blaze
The loved ones of young people unaccounted for after a deadly blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's ski resort are confronting an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and requesting clues about their loved ones publicly.
The fire devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Circulated footage reveal the ceiling igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have stated that it could take considerable time to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which claimed the lives of four dozen individuals and wounded another 119. Authorities noted on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with work still underway to locate the remaining few.
In the interim, loved ones have been using online platforms to appeal for clues about their friends who were present at the venue that evening.
Appeals for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are not yet determined, according to an appeal from his family.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, told a publication that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.
"This is a living nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She explained that some of his companions had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's foreign ministry has indicated that six of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is deceased, without directly referencing the fire, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him passion and true sportsmanship."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An official spokesperson has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Additional Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His mother told reporters that he had been on vacation but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"Someone with him said they fled after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers said, "I remember his good nature and positive demeanor, alongside great responsibility. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to reports.
Her brother has posted an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her other nation say they are actively engaged with the case.
