The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, Nigerian authorities stated on late Wednesday. The 36-year-old was part of a serious road collision in the Lagos area on the 29th of December, a horrific crash that took the lives of two of his team members.
Recovering from Minor Injuries
The boxer had remained in the hospital while recovering from minor injuries, his management team stated earlier on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post on X that Joshua was judged healthy enough to “recuperate at home”.
“Anthony and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two deceased friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” the official remarked.
Honoring the Deceased
The victims of the crash were identified as Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. Omotoso added that the champion was filled with sorrow and overcome with emotion over the tragic loss of his two trusted companions.”
His release from the hospital comes as the boxing community offered sympathy for the champion in the wake of the heartbreaking incident.
