Barcelona Set to Play First Fixture at Upgraded Camp Nou over the weekend
Barcelona have announced their first game will take place at the still-under-construction Camp Nou this Saturday. Athletic Bilbao will visit the Basque side in La Liga 30 months following their departure so building work could begin.
“We’ve dreamed about the return. Now, it’s here. We’re back home. Back at Spotify Camp Nou.”
Attendance will be limited though over 45,000 attendees are permitted inside based on approved permits. After final construction, the stadium’s capacity will reach almost 105,000 spectators, a rise from the old capacity. Officials confirmed recent additions comprise a new players’ tunnel along with upgraded changing facilities.
Stadium Testing
The club conducted an open training session at the Camp Nou in early November. The club said approval is being pursued from Uefa for their upcoming Champions League fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt on 9 December at Camp Nou. They have been hosting matches at Estadio Olímpic Lluís Companys.
